Apple Trees Intiatives started with the the Community Garden in Suikerbossie Park, Protea Village. The idea behind the project was to provide residents with the opportunity to participate in food security activities, while engaging with community members, sharing horticultural knowledge, and fostering a sense of community.
In conjunction with The City Of Cape Town, C-Max Security, and Protea Village Neighbourhood Watch, the poject is cooperatively maintained by residential participating gardeners to grow food and other plants with ecological benefits for the community.
The Apple Tree Initiatives mission is to engage a resilient local food system through education, advocacy, and community-building initiatives in various communities.
